Chautauqua's staff has worked diligently to assure quality control in the Vitamin and Health and Beauty departments. We search out product lines from companies that follow the most rigorous manufacturing practices and adhere to fair trade and labor policies.The health and beauty industry has been only loosely regulated by the F.D.A. As a consequence, some misleading claims have been attributed to certain products. Non-organic petroleum derived ingredients had been allowed, and substances with carcinogenic elements have been found.
Chautauqua has pulled these products from our shelves and continues this ingredient watch for new products.
Our Health and Beauty lines shall be free of: Sodium Laurel/Laureth Sulfate (foaming agent in shampoo), Oxybenzone (skin penetrant in sunscreen), Fluoride (additive in toothpaste), Dioxane (carcinogen) and various other additives.
